What is the claim?
On June 25, 2024, Afghanistan won a thrilling match against Bangladesh for the first time T20 World Cup They had made it to the semi-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Meanwhile, a video of the Afghanistan team is going viral on social media in which they are seen celebrating the victory by chanting “Vande Mataram”.
The screenshot of the result of the match between India and Australia on June 24 is also visible on the video in which India won by 24 runs. ‘Vande Mataram’ is also written on it.
A user posted the video on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Afghanistan reached the semi-finals after defeating Bangladesh. However, the viral video is not from the ongoing T20 World Cup but from the 2023 Cricket World Cup, when Afghanistan won by 8 wickets over Pakistan and the slogan “Vande Mataram” has been added separately to it.
How did we find out the truth?
To verify the authenticity of the claim made in the viral video, we started searching it through reverse image search and found that this video was posted on October 23, 2023 on the ex-account of Afghanistan player Mohammad Nabi. Post id=’action_msg_1373’> Here) it was done.

In the caption with the video, Mohammad Nabi wrote, “..Our team won a match against Pakistan and ended the long-awaited victory drought…”
We found that in the video, the Afghanistan players are first seen saying “Hey Hey” and then celebrating the victory by shouting “Allah-hu-Akbar”. It can be clearly seen in the video that Gulbadin Naib “Nara-e-Takbir”, to which all the players respond by saying “Allah-hu-Akbar”. Mohammad Nabi shared the same video on his Twitter account on October 23, 2023. Instagram id=’action_msg_1373’> Here ) was also shared on.
Nowhere in this video are the Afghan players heard chanting “Vande Mataram”. It is clear that this has been added separately in the viral video.
